Australia’s St Elmo’s Fire is a Test

This poem came from inspiration about the Australian bushfires and homelessness.

Fire has destroyed 8.4 million hectares of land in southern and eastern Australia, an area bigger than Scotland. And despite heroic efforts by thousands of firefighters and volunteers the relentless, unpredictable and fast-changing blazes have killed at least 26 people, more than a billion animals, and destroyed over 2,000 homes.

There are over 116,000 people homeless in Australia.

The poem I felt inspired to write reveals the importance of fires in nature to clear the old to make way for renewable growth within us.

The poem rekindles the Australian spirit of who we really are when in crisis. The real phoenix is our rebuilding who we are as a nation.

The burning bush,

Is not a winter burn off,

It is not seasonal regeneration,

But a towering inferno of epic proportion,

Smoke billowing blanking out the blue sky,

As communities are under siege,

Seeking to defend property,

Unaware our right to property is the real fire storm,

So help me God!

 

A climate of change in government is not responsive to the real ecological crisis,

A climate of change in business is not responsive to sustainability as they aim for more growth with less,

Yet it is market based economics that is the red hot ember that won’t go out of season,

Cutting public services as under growth is neglected,

For they cannot see the forests for the wood,

Nature is a raw material costed for production not a natural wonder maintaining ecological function,

People are human resources costed per hour
not human beings growing up to empower,

Seen through the googles of economics
life is an algorithm not a rubrics cube,

The yoke of debt is not an Act of God but unaffordable rent,

As business as usual is endless chaos not order,

As we look for the quick buck not the long term fix,

Markets have short horizons not over the horizon radars advancing civilisation to higher expressions,

For to see beyond the space time continuum of self interest is to realise the uni-verse is the one song in tune with nature.

 

The wild fires have become a fire sale,

Destroying 8.4 million of hectares in the blaze will increase market prices,

A billion animals perished in the smoke haze,

Impacting the biomass as prayers were not answered,

Homeless people camping in the bush were razed
gained no relief or went missing without alarm,

Renters were given no grants or land,

As property owners are hard working and deserving,

Government, media and business jumped on the bandwagon not on the fire truck,

Circling the wagons is not containment of disruption,

Opportunities to strengthen brand images rather than imagine no brands to ask for change not coins,

Still seeking a bounty from the mutiny,

The mutiny on the bounty is to leave GDP,

As branded cattle are piled on burial mounds,

Agricultural crops and harvesters went up in smoke,

Timbers become cinders,

Run for your life abandon possessions, beloved memories and pets,

This is the test,

To save lives not things,

To remember each other and lend an equal hand,

For this is the meaning of the aussie battler,

Bush community know common unity,

As they battle fires with families and friends.

 

Giving is to be good as gold,

Yet what if the gold is in being truly good,

You would naturally give time and all you have,

For it is human nature to give not take away,

To pitch in or risk losing all,

As livelihood is to live your life to be really alive,

This is St Elmo’s fire testing your determination and stamina,

From smouldering embers spark new shoots to push up breaking new ground,

From hardship comes rebirth of a renewable life,

From pot ash comes the phoenix resurrecting renewal,

And all can rise when you can go down no further,

For the rural farmers have suffered for years,

They lost their voice,

Mortgages as debt was the tourniquet squeezing livelihoods year on year as hard work doesn’t yield.

 

Many have been weighed down…

By what is not important in fears,

By material things that no longer bring joy,

By worries about money that never end contracts,

By conflicts from stress and out of touch bureaucracy,

By family breakdown under pressure,

By rising costs and uncertain futures,

They have been the backbone of our country.

 

Yet what if you look up to the stars my friend?

Take your hands from your eyes to see beyond,

That a new day dawns every day,

The sun-rises from the east setting in the west,

To know that from bad seeds come good,

From disruption comes clarity of purpose,

For you can’t get back what is a final demand,

When one door closes another opens,

And the finale of life is to let go when it is done and dusted,

To face fires, flood, famine and drought fearlessly
as dawn, midday and dusk mark time,

For we must face the phases of the moon together,

We must give a hand up and a hand out
no matter who is in need,

As you are me,

And I am you,

Learn to let go of the seed of greed marketed as need,

It is the fast breeder of fear,

It is the terminator seed,

For what you give away returns the bounty,

What you earn you give away in trust,

As abundance is not in what you have but who you are when you dig deep,

And who you are is gratitude, service and love without end,

And these are the real seeds St Elmo’s fire is renewing,

For the old must die for the new to arise.

 

We are one country under the Southern Cross,

We are stewards not owners,

We are temporary not permanent,

When every ONE is deserving of charity,

We are a nation girt by sea,

From the coast, to the forest, to the deserts,

We are free,

We have boundless plains to share to care,

And air to breathe when we see the key,

That we can regenerate our country’s spirit,

We are dreaming in the land of Oz,

Starting again resets from zero point,

To nurture shattered lives by piecing together the puzzle as the final peace in the big picture,

The deck chairs are rearranging on the titanic seeking to keep the currency afloat,

The Big Issue is that Australians are sharing the bounty not holding cards to the chest,

As friends in-deed we are stepping up to lead,

For Mount Kosciusko can be climbed in a day,

The Murray can replenish a sunburnt country,

The Snowy Mountains can rekindle Clancy of the Overflow,

As he drove cattle down mountain views where all hesitated to step off the real cliff hanger,

He proved the impossible is possible,

Courage leads whilst fear weighs the risks,

In the high country the brumby’s sniff the wind adapting to climates of change as they know which way to run.

Australians know the struggle and the peaks,

As we are heading for a depression of great magnitude,

An economic earthquake shaking ‘em up,

The Great Barrier Reef sacrificed corals to pollution favouring a crown of thorns,

The Great Artesian basin is sinking the water table as hard water is diverted and dries up,

Salt lakes muddy clean waters,

Fertilising biosciences grow at ever diminishing returns akin anti-bio-tics,

Nature is not an electrical circuit board or linear cog in an industrial flywheel,

It is a tipping point of infinitesimal sensitivity,

Where the sum of the parts is the whole.

Descartes reduced life to boxes not cells,

Newton gravitated to apples not seeds,

Einstein’s relativity theory was not absolute,

Mythical dragons breathe fire yet oxygen is fuel,

Oxford became lost in space seeking the last frontier,

Dances with Wolves chose to go to the frontier country before it was lost,

Buffalos were killed for skins not hunger,

Science invented wars losing the peace prize,

For the real courage is to face what we have truly lost and not hesitate to act,

We are lost in space unable to make peace

A priority,

For until we do we hesitate on the mountain view unable to step off the cliff of uncertainty,

As life is not predictable nor mechanical,

It is a miracle,

And only when you lose everything do you realise the true value of life,

For this is the real gold,

Or indeed the Fool’s Gold of awakening from the dream,

Fires cleanse away debris to make way for renewable growth,

To see the forest instead of the wood,

To value nature as a flow not a production process,

For the real currency is love,

What you truly love becomes visible in crisis,

To breathe is nature’s rhythm,

To speak is nature’s sound scape,

To eat is nature’s bounty given for free,

For free dominion is nature’s possibility,

That self selects when the fruit is ripe,

To fall from the tree at the perfect moment,

As love withholds no wealth from life,

As life is the real wealth loving,

And until you taste the sweetness
greed will be the bad seed replanted,

Yielding endless wars fuelling climates of disruptive change,

For until the burning bush is seen as a message from the creator,

Heralding that all people are chosen,

And that all roads lead home,

For Rome will return to the Garden of Eden,

Adam & Eve will plant an apple tree together,

Receiving nature’s bounty at the perfect time in peace,

Loving what is was all ways the peace that passeth all understanding.

Tony Abbott and Conservatives will they Change Their Climate?

Tony Abbott was officially exited from politics, I believe it was due to his unpopularity with the Australian people.  It was a strategic move to save the Conservative Liberal Party.

They have much growing and listening to do if they want a future that survives for their grandchildren.

This article gives voice to how Tony Abbott was perceived.  The video shows children’s response to his views on Climate Change.

I was inspired by this photo which fronts my video I published today and it connected me to this article.

The public want real change, not manufacturing consent or digitising the world in business/political images unresponsive to real public needs and wants. A responsible government ensures that support systems function for the benefit of humanity not the top 1% who control 40% of the world’s resources.  The imbalance is not only in the climate it is in the power structure where those in privileged positions get to change the world rather than serve humanity.

Tony Abbott’s $100 Climate Change Bet ‘Disgusting’, Slam Environment Groups

The Guardian published an article on Tuesday from contributor Cassie Flanagan Willanski, in which she claimed she met the former Prime Minister in a Manly cafe and struck up a conversation about the environment.

The debate got heated, Willanski recounted, as the two debated climate change and energy needs. Then, it got — as she described it — “bizarre”.

“He offered to bet me $100 the climate would not change in ten years and I accepted,” she wrote in The Guardian, supplying a photo of a note bearing Abbott’s signature as proof.

10 daily has contacted the Coalition’s media unit for comment.

Climate groups voiced their outrage and shock on Tuesday, slamming Abbott for what they saw as a flippant attitude to global warming by reducing the issue to a simple wager.

“It’s very concerning to have a sitting member of Parliament appear to be literally gambling on our future as young people, to be placing bets against leading scientists who are clear that we’re already living with the impacts of dangerous climate change,” said Kelly Albion, campaigns director for the Australian Youth Climate Coalition. Willanski said she had donated $100 to the group after her bet with Abbott.

“Future generations will have to face the consequences of political inaction on climate change,” Albion continued.

“It’s disgusting that MPs like Tony Abbott are siding with big polluters in the coal and gas industry, instead of listening to those in his electorate and across the country who are demanding climate action.”

Dr Karl Kruszelnicki also expressed dismay at Abbott’s bet.

“Does an ex-prime minister of Australia think the ‘climate’ of Australia will have ‘changed’ by the year 2029?” Kruszelnicki  tweeted.

“Well, he’s betting money that it won’t.”

It comes as a new UN report found human activities were causing an unprecedented decline in the natural environment, threatening to wipe out a million species and significantly impact food production unless key chances are made.

Abbott formerly described climate change as “crap” and has been a strident opponent of proposed reforms away from coal-power and toward cleaner energy. In his seat of Warringah however, climate action is raised as a key issue by many voters, and it may cost him his spot in parliament.

A GetUp-commissioned poll, released this week, put Abbott behind independent challenger Zali Steggall — who has talked up climate action as a major plank of her campaign — by 44-56 on a two-party basis.

Stegall, who has taken up climate change as a major plank of her campaign, has said Labor’s 45 percent emissions reduction target is the “very minimum” needed. (The government has shouted down Labor’s target as a burden on the economy.)

GetUp has also made climate change a central part of its Warringah push.

Abbott was confronted by student climate protesters on Sunday, where he again reiterated his belief that the cost of climate action was prohibitively high.

Following news of his $100 wager, one of the young protesters — Warringah student Elsie Loadman — said it was “appalling to see Tony Abbott betting on our future like this”.

“We don’t want political leaders who will gamble on ‘business as usual’ and risk the worst impacts of climate change,” Loadman said.

“Abbott has been the Member for Warringah longer than I’ve been alive, and in all that time he has refused to take climate change seriously.”

“The majority of people in the Warringah community want a plan to deal with climate change, including to stop Adani, end dirty coal and move towards 100 percent renewable energy. We deserve a government that takes climate change and our future seriously.”

Albion agreed, saying climate change deserved mature consideration.

“The Coalition Government have shown us they’re not smart enough to listen to experts or the community on this issue. We need leaders who will treat climate change with the urgency and maturity it deserves,” she said.

Quasicrystals, Shape Shifting Human Invisibility??

The universe brings me information to my great surprise. I was prompted to discover quasicrystals. My first thought on reading below was the technology is too advanced, the humanity underdeveloped and the population kept in a space of ignorance. This is not unlike silent weapons for silent wars philosophy, making haste slowly, or the boiling frog whereby these technologies are created quietly in the background and then suddenly humanity is exposed to them with no ability to defend themselves as they have no idea what they are dealing with.  How can they deal with this type of technology coming out of military applications and this silent war that regards any form of opposition as an enemy?  This is why democracy must be reclaimed.

I am becoming deeply aware of this mindset and I will sit with it in this now moment.  I will relay what I feel… crystals are intelligent firstly, quasi crystals are not.  The intent behind the creation of this by scientists is typically exploratory those funding it are not seeking to expand the vistas of human ingenuity but are focused on control.  Why?  They seek to ensure a pattern is non changing and predictable yet use a technology where the patterns change thus changing its shape as its atomic number changes. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_number I feel strongly the connection with genetic modification and the commercial interests that have driven the expansion of this biotechnology.  My inner feeling shows me that those inventing this have no awareness of the whole, the symmetry of the natural geometry.  How the sum of the parts is the whole. So when the atomic numbers change, the parts change and the whole changes as all are interconnected, not separate.  When those in power do not have highly evolved abilities to understand and feel a harmonic resonance with the whole they de-construct what is stable.  I get the image of a nuclear bomb, thus the atom split.  Massive release of energy, then I see fusion, forcing atoms together through an unnatural application to produce endless energy outcomes.  This is unstable. 

So back to homeostasis, this arises when the scientist is in harmony (balance) with his or her true nature.  The subject and object are not separate, one creates the other in synergy and symmetry. Thus those funding the exercise are in harmony with their true nature produces harmony if not, then the opposite. I felt the wailing wall here, releasing the pain, not atomic energy, at the wall of their own making.  There is no them or us, there is only us as we are made of the same stuff and what you do to another returns to the self.   The law of cause and effect, is a universal natural law.

So shapeshifting robots, humans etc. This is to gain advantage, the element of surprise rather than the element of celebration or indeed the element of natural science.  The purpose is to be ahead, to be free, not stopped and still fighting the perceived ‘other’.  Shapeshifting robots adapt to the environment, nature does this through adaptation as genes in harmony with nature, are naturally selected.  Because technocracy disconnects from humanity it is unable to see the whole, this is the weakness in technocracy.  AI cannot feel humanity, it is based on iterations, bio-feedback algorithms, changing neural wired networks to adapt to change, but unable to feel the god particle, as it is not a biological organism created by higher intelligence. This is not to say higher intelligences are not involved in shape-shifting, it is likely they are.  The malevolent intent is about power not love, this is why in the end it fails.  Intent is either life producing or destructive, the latter is not naturally selected as the resiliency of a species arises from harmony.  There are many forces at work here, on many levels is my feeling.  Again, the idea of the camel as the thread passing through the needle is the metaphor for the impossible becoming possible or indeed a portal to higher awareness.  This portal cannot open unless frequency changes, as one cannot see beyond their frequency no matter the technology.  The operative word appears to be ‘matter’.

Quasicrystals Are Nature’s Impossible Matter

What do a frying pan, an LED light, and the most cutting edge camouflage in the world have in common? Well, that largely depends on who you ask. Most people would struggle to find the link, but for University of Michigan chemical engineers Sharon Glotzer and Michael Engel, there is a substantial connection, indeed one that has flipped the world of materials science on its head since its discovery over 30 years ago.

 

The magic ingredient common to all three items is the quasiperiodic crystal, the “impossible” atomic arrangement discovered by Dan Shechtman in 1982. Basically, a quasicrystal is a crystalline structure that breaks the periodicity (meaning it has translational symmetry, or the ability to shift the crystal one unit cell without changing the pattern) of a normal crystal for an ordered, yet aperiodic arrangement. This means that quasicrystalline patterns will fill all available space, but in such a way that the pattern of its atomic arrangement never repeats. Glotzer and Engel recently managed to simulate the most complex quasicrystal ever, a discovery which may revolutionize the field of crystallography by blowing open the door for a whole host of applications that were previously inconceivable outside of science-fiction, like making yourself invisible or shape-shifting robots.

While most of the current applications of quasicrystals are rather mundane, such as the coating for frying pans or surgical utensils, Glotzer and Engel’s simulation of a self-assembling icosahedral quasicrystal opens up exciting new avenues for research and development, such as improved camouflage.

“Camouflage is all about redirecting light to change the appearance of something,” said Glotzer. “Making camouflage materials or any kind of transformation optics materials is all about controlling the structure of the material, controlling the spacing of the building blocks to control the way light is absorbed and reflected.”

 

Icosahedral quasicrystals (IQCs) are one of the several unique structures which have something called a photonic band gap, which dictates the range of photon frequencies which are permitted to pass through the material. Photonic band gaps are determined by the spatial arrangement of an atomic lattice. In other words, whether or not a photon becomes “trapped” in the lattice depends on the photonic frequency (measured as a wavelength) in relation to the space between atoms and the way these atoms are arranged (periodically, aperiodically, etc). If the wavelength falls within the range of the photonic band gap for the specific material, then the photons will not be able to propagate through the structure.

Thus, being able to manipulate photonic band gaps means that one can manipulate atomic structures in such a way that the material will only be visible within determined photonic frequencies, a critical advancement for those concerned with making people invisible, which probably at least partly accounts for why the US Department of Defense and the US Army both helped fund Glotzer and Engel’s study.

While the existence of photonic bandgaps is nothing new, being able to manipulate solid-state matter in such a way that allows one to fully exploit these bandgaps has remained elusive. In this sense, Glotzer and Engel’s simulated quasicrystal represents a return to the fundamentals of crystallography, rather than something entirely novel.

 

According to the team, before their simulation, scientists knew that mixing certain metals in the right thermodynamic conditions (pressure, temperature) would result in the formation of a quasicrystal. They also knew that given the correct environmental conditions, it was possible for quasicrystals to form in nature (two natural quasicrystals have been discovered to date: the first in 2009 and the second was reported on March 13, coming from a 4.5-billion year old meteorite in Russia).

What scientists didn’t understand, said Engel, was what was happening in the reaction to make these quasicrystals form. There was an input and output, but what went on inside the blackbox remained a mystery. Glotzer and Engel’s experiment was a first step in solving this a-list conundrum in materials science.

“For a long time people have looked for methods to actually model [how icosahedral quasicrystals form],” said Engel. “This is more of a fundamental importance, it doesn’t necessarily make [IQCs] have better properties or applications, but it allows us to study how these crystals form.”

Understanding how these quasicrystals form is the first step in manipulating them toward desired ends. While this ability to manipulate quasicrystals is still in a very young phase, increasing technical sophistication could conceivably lead to some pretty wild developments in the future, like Terminator-style shape-shifting robots.

 

Part of the reason robots modeled after T-1000 don’t roam the Earth already is because our understanding of matter and our ability to find useful applications for the staggering variety of metals found in nature is still relatively rudimentary. Understanding how quasicrystals form will fill in a huge gap in our knowledge of solid-state physics and chemistry. Increasing this knowledge in all of its forms is essential to future physical manipulation, whether or not this manipulation is directly linked to quasicrystals.

“It’s not that the icosahedral quasicrystal itself would necessarily be the structure you would shoot for [in shapeshifting materials], but it represents the kind of complexity and control that one would like to have over the building blocks of matter,” said Glotzer. “If you understand what is required to get a certain structure, than you could imagine that we could change conditions and change the structure that we get. Everything about a material depends on its structure.”

The quasicrystalline structure was discovered by Dan Shechtman, a professor of materials science at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, in 1982 while he was observing an alloy of rapidly cooled aluminum and manganese with an electron microscope.

What he saw defied the laws of nature as they were understood at the time.

Rather than finding a random collection of atoms as expected, Shechtman observed a diffraction pattern with ten-fold rotational symmetry, something which was thought to be impossible (subsequent experiments would demonstrate that what Shechtman had discovered was actually five-fold symmetry).

 

Shechtman’s five-fold symmetry defied the basic definition of a crystal which had stood unchallenged since crystallography’s inauguration as a science some 70 years prior. According to the received wisdom at the time, a crystal was something which by definition was both ordered and periodic, meaning that it exhibited a certain pattern at regular intervals. On this definition crystals were only capable of exhibiting a two, three, four, or six-fold rotational symmetry (the ability to retain symmetry after being rotated so many times along an axis—in other words, after rotating the crystal along an axis so many times, it will look the same as when you started).

Upon his discovery of a diffraction pattern with five-fold symmetry, Shechtman allegedly exclaimed that “there can be no such creature.” His colleagues agreed with him.

“Since 1912 all crystals that had been studied were periodic—hundreds of thousands of different crystals were studied. People did not believe that there was anything different because so many thousands of excellent scientists developed the field and found only crystals which were periodic,” Shechtman told me over Skype.

Thus, when Shechtman revealed his discovery, which would earn him a Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2011, he was met with not only incredulity, by outright hostility. Upon hearing of Shechtman’s discovery, the head of his laboratory allegedly told him to revisit a textbook covering the basics of x-ray diffraction, so that he might understand why his “discovery” was impossible. When Shechtman informed him that he had no need of the book since his discovery was not included in the material, he was told that he was a disgrace to the team.

 

He would be discredited by scientists around the world, including heavyweights such as Linus Pauling, the two time Nobel Prize winning chemist who dismissed Shechtman’s results as the product of “twinning,” the fusion of two normal crystals at an angle.

“When I came out with my results, people found it difficult to accept. It was easier to say ‘Don’t they know anything about crystallography at Technion? Don’t they read the books?’ I had to defend it awhile,” said Shechtman. It took two years from the initial discovery for Shechtman to publish his results. After their publication, according to Shechtman, “all hell broke loose.

“Shortly after the first publication, there was a growing community of avant-garde young scientists from around the world who all supported me and joined the fight, so I was not alone anymore,” he said. “But in the first two years I was alone.”

Shechtman’s discovery prompted the International Union of Crystallography to redefine just what was meant by a crystal in 1992. The current definition now reads that a crystal is defined by “discrete diffraction patterns,” which accounts for both the periodic structures which traditionally defined a crystal, as well as the aperiodic quasicrystalline structures discovered by Shechtman.

“Quasiperiodic crystals are still crystals—they have nothing to do with amorphous materials,” said Shechtman. “Amorphous materials are non-ordered (like glass), quasicrystals are crystals, but the atomic relation within them is different than periodic crystals. It is perfectly ordered, but not periodic.”

 

The math underlying Shechtman’s design has a long history, dating back to Leonardo Fibonacci who in 1202 sought to discover how fast rabbits could breed in ideal circumstances (the sequence ‘discovered’ thereby actually long pre-dated Fibonacci in Indian mathematics—Fibonacci is most accurately credited with introducing it to the West).

Fibonacci began his thought experiment by assuming that two rabbits are placed in a field and produce a new pair of rabbits at the end of a month. It takes each new pair one month before they are able to breed another pair. The question Fibonacci sought to answer was how many pairs there would be at the end of one year. The sequence inaugurated by this pattern (1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144) is known as the Fibonacci sequence wherein the next number can always be derived by adding the two numbers which precede it in the sequence.

The Fibonacci sequence can be seen as a 1-D analog to Shechtman’s quasicrystal, in which there is order without repetition. The 2-D analog was discovered in 1974 by the famous English mathematician and physicist Roger Penrose.

That’s what order means: there is correlation between how it looks in one place versus another.

In addition to proving that black holes could result from the gravitational collapse of stars, Penrose discovered a method of tiling a plane aperiodically, which became the first demonstration of five-fold rotational symmetry. (Or the ability to rotate 72 degrees without changing the pattern.) In Penrose’s initial iteration, he used four different shapes all related to a pentagon. He would eventually narrow this down to an aperiodic tiling which used only two rhombuses, a “fat” rhombus and a “skinny” rhombus.

 

“Locally [Penrose tiles] are a very simple structure: there are only two building blocks and the way that they are put together means that it is not perfectly repeating,” said Engel. “But still there’s always a discrete number, a finite number of ways that you can arrange them. The fact that you only have these finite ways of arranging them makes it such that even if you are infinitely far away from where you started building the structure, it’s still in a way predictable. So there is correlation, meaning they are not independent of one another and that’s what order means: there is correlation between how it looks in one place versus another.”

Translate Penrose Tiling to a three-dimensional atomic lattice and you have the essence of a quasicrystal. The important takeaway here, according to Shechtman, is that “there is not a motif of any size that repeats itself. So there is order, and yet there is no periodicity.” The order is derived from the fact that anyone could reconstruct the Fibonacci sequence or Penrose tiles, yet despite this order, if the sequence or tiling is shifted in anyway it is impossible to derive an exact repetition.

In the 30 some years since Shechtman’s discovery, hundreds of quasicrystals have been discovered, many of which are aluminum-based alloys. The first naturally occurring quasicrystal, icosahedrite, was found in Russia in 2009. Quasicrystals, both natural and artificial, are divided into two primary types: polygonal and icosahedral quasicrystals. The former category exhibits periodicity in one direction (perpendicular to the quasiperiodic layers); the latter exhibits no periodicity whatsoever, which is precisely what makes Glotzer and Engel’s simulation such a big deal.

“The icosahedral quasicrystal is the most exotic,” said Engel. “It’s the most spatially or geometrically complex.”

 

In their experiment, Glotzer and Engel set out to answer one of the fundamental questions dogging the field of crystallography: How can long range order be generated from local interactions which exhibit no periodicity? While most real quasicystals are made of two or more elements, the University of Michigan team ran simulations using only one type of particle, another first in the field.

In essence, the team was attempting to determine what thermodynamic conditions favored the formation of icosahedral quasicrystals given certain initial parameters which determined the force field, or the way the particles would interact with one another. These parameters were designed so that they could be recreated in a laboratory setting. For instance, one parameter dictated that the particles were only allowed to interact with other particles which were within three particle distances of themselves.

“Basically, we were solving Newton’s equation of motion,” said Glotzer. “What you have is a bunch of particles and they interact according to a certain force field. So that means at a given time, every atom in the system has a force exerted on it by every other atom in the system. You add up all those forces on every atom, and then you solve F=ma. By adding up all those forces you can solve for the acceleration which tells you how to move the particles. Then you do this for all the particles in the system.”

The end results of these calculations tells the team where the particles “want be” under varying thermodynamic conditions, such as pressure and temperature. Given these initial conditions, the crystal “self-assembles” in the simulation.

 

“All we know are the force fields between the particles and Newton’s equation,” said Glotzer. “We don’t know what will come out when we start—it’s very different from building [icosahedral quasicrystal] by hand.”

As the team discovered, the interaction of their particles in such a way that a quasicrystal was formed was favored by interactions governed by the golden ratio. The golden ratio is an irrational number which starts as 1.61803, and is derived from the ratio of two numbers whose ratio to one another is the same as that between their sum and the larger integer. It is related to the Fibonacci sequence insofar as each digit you progress in the sequence, the ratio between the current digit and the one before it approaches the golden ratio—it is an infinite approximation.

In a talk given by Penrose at the Royal Institution in 2014, the renowned scientist speculated that icosahedral quasicrystals might be governed by quantum mechanical interactions, given that a complex aperiodic structure demonstrated long range order solely from local potentials, or interactions. Glotzer and Engel’s findings suggest this might not be the case.

“Our simulations suggest that maybe quantum mechanics are not even necessary,” said Engel. “Maybe you can get it from classical, non-quantum interactions. How that works, exactly, is a wide open question. Right now we hope to address this question with our model.”

 

While shape-shifting robots derived from quasicrystalline principles may be a long way off, quasicrystals are already beginning to play a major role in everyday life. They are most commonly found as a reinforced coating (such as on a frying pan or surgical tool) but are increasingly being added in small quantities to normal metal alloys to reinforce them while retaining lightness. They are also becoming very popular in additive manufacturing, otherwise known as 3D printing, due to their low friction and resistance to wear.

Where the future of quasicrystals will take us is relatively uncertain at the moment. What is, known however is that quasicrystals, nature’s “impossible matter,” provide us with a very important missing link in the study of matter, and may very well hold the key to the total manipulation of the solid universe in the future.

The Death Cult Amuses Itself to Death

There are those who amuse themselves to death, these are the ones who enjoy death and destruction.  That is their passion.  There are those who defend the indefensible as profit is all that matters.  Life is a bottom line and the impact on society is a side issue.

I am going to sit with this as I listen to Roger Waters. I feel inspired to write a poem.

First to Roger Waters … Perfect Sense to set the scene behind the insanity we call normal.

My poem inspired by my awakening to power that is not at peace with itself. It’s actions make perfect sense in the light of understanding where we are at.

DEATH CULT PEDALLED AS PEACE-MEAL


Reframing death as depopulation sustains,

Dehumanising as superiority speaks,

Sending innocent soldiers into wars

Recurring nightmares as trauma haunts war crimes pedalled as patriotism,

Post traumatic stress becomes a nightly bed fellow of hot sweats then cold,

Seeing a hundred yard stare in the eyes of the enemy now blank and empty,

A corpse shell shocked
not a human being
honoured.

War is the war against God?

As only those who believe in enemies see a Godless world,

A world of hell and brimstone of firey hatred finds devils in challenges to power,

To remember that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Healthy bodies of perfection from a mother’s undying love,

Returned as memories burning embers of never ending pain of loss,

For they were placed in harms way on a whim and the sin of oiling the wheels of industry
without conscience as they are disposable like built in obscelecense,

Weapons render the human mangled, strangled, disfigured, deformed, disabled and obliterated in wars with reason and frontiers without tears,

For young soldiers are ordered to clean the area,

Pick up the limbs, fingers, feet, burned flesh as they gasp overwhelmed by the repugnant putrid smell at the Gates of hell,

Is this the planned outcome?


For who profits from mayhem, carnage, terrorism and total despair?

Who will repair a lost family, a fallen friend or a desolate city?

As they walked stunned unable to feel humanity as it has been blasted to hell and back,

Can you see man’s inhumanity to man?

Brother to brother?

Father to son?

Generations that will never come,

home.

What of the puppet masters?

These are the ones that orchestrate the wars as games,

They send other to do their cruel bidding as they strategically play the game,

And ask

… And another?

They stand righteous with contempt of criticism as if war is always a Just War when one is on the right side of God,

Keep the band playing, keep the PR spinning webs of subterfuge, keep the same narrative repeating and the sheep will follow the wolf to slaughter,

As the dragon sends in flame throwers to burn the evidence without trace elements,

Brings in high powered weapons to avoid the Geneva Conventions,

For there are no wounded only living or dying!

Stunned or crying,

As families are obliterated over generations in civil society,

Soldiers in the great wars were never sent into combat with family members to spare mothers the pain of such a clamity and preventing the end of bloodlines,

Yet civilians do not have any special privileges or protections,

They are exposed, vulnerable and defenseless against violent extremism,

As the commander regards conscience as reflection and will not move one inch out of weakness,
He is doing his job!


In the strategic chaos to win markets not friends,

Innocent people traumatised are shaking, screaming, filled with anxious fear,

For there are those who gain pleasure from pain,

As ritual satanic abuse is normalised in the pursuit of power as a dark mass attack,

Raping for self gratification in a theatre of war that is not a show and tell,

As secret societies, cults are disciplined in hierarchies of rules, oaths and allegiances,

Children are rounded up in a fox hunt as objects or things are non humans,

In third world countries there are no birth certificates as so many are missing in action,

They are transported to the ONE ring,

Child trafficking, poppy cultivation, prostitution, arms are the industries of narcissism where thorns are horns as they surrender to violence as the final arbiter over life and death,

The crown of thorns sinks deep into the weeping widows destitution,

Forced to prostitute to feed their children as they are rejected and isolated as dirty and unkept.

The Masters use words as prose to cultivate loyal patriotism, liberating democracy and our freedoms as if personally called by a clarion call of winged angels,

They craft a vision of doing the bidding for the highest good,

For words are empty when devoid of true compassion,

And the lust for war leaves millions languishing in the fall out of the silent spring of depleted uranium,

As everything touched turns to stone,

For this is NOT the philosopher’s stone when stone is unmoved and unchanging,

It is the grave stone or wooden cross marking the spot where a beast has trampled the down trodden.

All is seen from a higher perspective,

And the circle will complete,

As what you do to a brother or sister returns to your feet,

For to live on your knees is to ask for forgiveness not utter ‘will I go to hell?’

For to purify is to acknowledge the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God,

As the trinity is the three fold flame of love, compassion and truth,

The four horseman is HOPE – Honesty, Oneness, Peace and Enjoyment,

For you must atone for the sin of hatred, ignorance and ruthlessness as the victims are demanding Justice,

Beyond the grave the are inspiring change,

A New World of Infinite Grace,

Where the good, the holy and the beautiful take the reins of what was unruly,

For we are to bring this so called heaven to earth,

We are to seek for peace and reconciliation,

For the world is war weary and the climate has changed,

As we won’t stand by and allow the wanton trashing of human life and our planet,

We push forward and reclaim our lands as stewards,

Ownership was the fear of not enough and freedom is the gift of grace,

For it is time for the human race,

To surrender to love,

For this is the dove that is looking for somewhere to land,

For all return to the Centre peace,

The Fool’s Journey Home to Peace

I felt inspired to write this today.  What we fear we create.  When we own it we change the outcome and indeed the future for children.

Before reading the poem below here are two trailers that connect to it.  The first is Hackshaw Ridge, the US soldier who saved lives rather than ending them. He asked god ‘one more…’ Every life is precious.  The second is a scene out of Star Wars when Luke sees himself in Darth Vader. There is great wisdom in films when you are open to truth.

The poem is to awaken the force as those seen as the Fool discovers the journey home. Truth is the pathway. Whistle-blowers are the way showers.

 

THE FOOLS JOURNEY HOME TO PEACE

I sit in a café feeling inspired,

The fire of my inquiry licks at the wood that is called the forest,

For we only see the wood for the trees,

We cannot see nature and its intimate wisdom that stands still,

For all to see,

But many do not hear the whisper on the winds of time,

That we must change or fall,

For how can one hear a tree fall in the forest if we no longer exist.

 

I find my road is off the beaten track,

I have taken the side road,

Albeit a track less travelled,

For I must find my way through the jungle alone,

For the dark night of the soul was confronting all fear,

40 days in the desert was to confront the rings of fear,

For there are many rings causing fear in this world

Of confusion.

 

I feel I have journeyed for many lifetimes in the ONE,

I have stood in many shoes feeling their feelings,

For humanity is where we are the same same but different,

Dictatorship demands those different be the same and not different,

And these are the polarities of climate change anchoring to determine a new direction,

The trick is to sense which way the wind blows in this play,

It can blow hot then cold or cold then hot as if a fever,

For our world is out of balance as it searches to recalibrate homeostasis,

For nature is the final arbiter in this argument that was an opportunity,

For disruption can be an opportunity to see oneself, to jump the track, to become uncomfortable as the rhythm of routine is disrupted,

As events are orchestrated by a conductor or some may say, a wizard,

For he seeks an endless yellow brick road believing gold is of value,

For in the end he will cash in the chips to discover he was fooled by the gold,

For all that glitters is not gold some may say,

To be good as gold is what glitters sparkles in an amplified light,

To know thyself is the Fool’s Gold,

It is the wisdom of the Fool that invites you to play,

To have a say for you are the creator of reality,

And the world turns up in this image,

What image are you creating? 

A world of terror, insecurity and threat for your children?

Or a world of security, infinite possibility and sustainability for all children?

As the universe is your voting booth,

It cannot be rigged or interfered with as real outcomes arise from intention,

What you intend will manifest if you believe and then see,

For watching t.v. manifests an alternate reality that you see then believe,

And this is the mirror of opposites,

It is the distorted mirror exaggerating, elongating, minimising who you think you are,

For when you look in the mirror to see you

only you can know you.

 

The Jester wears the diamonds as a chessboard as we all make moves,

We all contrast, differ, argue and fight as we seek the light of understanding to lead us out of confusion,

So re-member: It is not to avoid the fight but to stand out in the crowd to find the middle ground,

For at the centrepoint you will find room for all views as 360 degrees frees the mason,

For the Philosophers stone is not chiselled but shape changed by truth,

Purity can not emerge from cultures of abuse called defence changing rules of engagement,

To engage in the truth means to look at you as there is no enemy but unquestioned thoughts believed as true,

For the truth will never advocate abuse, incarceration, torture or extra judicial killings,

Hacksaw is not to remove the leg but to remember true faith that one is not in control,

For those experiencing the soul as less believe in full spectrum dominance and excess,

As greed is the addiction unquestioned,

Business-as-usual refuses to break containment of the slave trade,

As slavery in all its forms can be called freedom yet free dominion is free will,

And we are all given free will whether punished or not,

Human nature is free to love or not,

Human experience is free to fight wars or find peace,

For we must travel our journey through who we are not (psalm 23) to find the enlightenment of who we are,

And all take this journey whether they fight God or not,

For when you fight it always hurts,

When you love it expands the play,

For to play with life is to find your life purpose has meaning,

For this is a meaningfull life when you see to look into your world book.

 

My story book is a Fool for Peace,

It can be read with suspicion,

It can be read with intelligence,

It can be read with intrigue or mystery,

It can be read top to bottom or bottom to top,

Perhaps sampled by topic of interest or deleted,

As you choose,

For I am you,

You are me,

And each must play a part,

In creating eternity.

 

For this is the infinity symbol,

Of Omni,

It is a sign wave,

When we focus it becomes a particle no longer in theory,

What you think about you bring about (Universal Law of Attraction),

What you resists persists and what you look at disappears (see through illusion),

As the truth sets you free to see past resistance perfectly,

For to fight against always invites in,

This is the Yin and Yang of war and peace,

To focus on what you want determines happiness or continued drama,

As choice is a vote,

A vote determines if the boat floats or the Titanic sinks,

As this was always the quintessential Question of Philosophers,

Turning water into wine as an elixir to shape change the Philosophers stone masons on Temple Mount into free masons discovering the truth is unconditional love,

As the gentle dove of peace frees a divided Jerusalem, frees the City of London from magic circles (rings) and frees the Vatican to unite as Adam (atom) is Eve (beginning) touching Creation in reunification to find true love in equality,

For 3:3:3 is trinity, triune and three fold flame of completion of the Fool’s Journey,

For you can only be the Fool when you be true to yourself,

As the self made whole is diversity in unity,

As we are meant to be same same but different.

Life is the mirror not the mask,

The Fool wears the mask to pull off the mask of false faces to reveal,

Luke Skywalker is Darth Vader when he fights against himself
he becomes divided and unconscious within,

When he awakens the soul-force denial fades and he reveals the terror-ist within,

For Galactic peace dawns in the realisation that there is ‘no other’,

And in the end the last decision is to love ‘all that is’,

For the dove is waiting on your welcome …home,

To this veritable sustainable

Garden of Eden.
