I will start investigating these goals by posting up the information in the public interest. I start this exploration bearing in mind that to-date we have not found homeostasis with the planet, we still are working within models of business-as-usual (profit maximisation) and the global public are largely unaware. Many do not have the language or education to understand the academic interpretations of what is best for all.
So let’s explore what is being proposed.
SDG SUMMIT, 24 – 25 September 2019, NEW YORK
High-level Political Forum (HLPF) under the 74th Session of the General Assembly
Accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
On 24 and 25 September 2019, Heads of State and Government will gather at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to follow up and comprehensively review progress in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event is the first UN summit on the SDGs since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda in September 2015.
The SDGs… Turning Promises into Reality
This is stated as a new social contract. That is to be remembered. What exactly is the old social contract and what is the new?
This opens with Jeffrey Sachs from the Earth institute, Columbia University (will look at this in the next blog).
The 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals are our collective response to building a fair globalization
António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General
It aims to transform our world and to improve people’s lives and prosperity on a healthy planet. It applies to all countries through partnerships and peace. Countries, regions, cities, the business sector and civil society are actively engaged in implementing the Agenda and the SDGs. They are mobilizing efforts to end all forms of poverty, fighting inequalities and tackling climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind. The summit will be a space to discuss the huge efforts that are being made and to identify future actions for accelerating progress towards the SDGs.
